Elvira Reale

  • She is a psychologist, a consultant at the Cardarelli hospital in Naples for the assistance of victims of violence, and a professor at the Federico II University of Naples in the specialization course on psychological expertise and reporting.
  • In the course of more than 30 years of profession she has dealt with women’s health, creating a specialized public service for women’s mental health in the 80s and 90s. Within this service it emerged that a frequent etiology of women’s disorders was intimate partner violence.
  • In this period and for 15 years she also carried out research on women’s mental health and in particular on depression, violence and stress at the Italian National Research Council.
  • From 2008 she collaborated with the national department of health and equal opportunities and with the Campania region, to activate Pink-Pathway in hospitals aimed at assistance in the emergency departments of  women, victims of physical, psychological and sexual violence, organizing, in addition to medical intervention, also the intervention of first psychological assistance with the relative psychological reporting. Its activity in hospitals was therefore accompanied by the production of more than 1500 psychological reports.
  • From 2018 to 2022 she collaborated as a consultant in the Commission of inquiry in the Italian Senate on feminicide and all types of violence, coordinating the working group on the secondary victimization of women, dealing with the procedures of the civil courts that penalize women victims of violence when they turn to the judicial system to define the rules of child custody. Then all the assistance and research activity was accompanied by training activities and the drafting of manuals and articles for the procedures to be adopted in the health and forensic fields to combat violence against women and their children.
